The mineral water

Chios belongs to a region of significant geological and tectonic processes.

According to scientific findings (see Mihalis Papadakis, Ph.D., NTUA, 2004), there is a geological fault with an East-West direction at the western end of the settlement of Agiasmata

The mineral waters

The water of this thermal water source follows a course from the surface of the earth to lower geological strata to the depths of the earth. During this process it is heated and stored when it encounters impermeable rocks. On its way to the subsoil it comes in contact with various geological formations and is enriched with minerals, trace elements and salts that make it suitable for therapeutic purposes.

Heated, it becomes lighter and quickly rises to the surface through geological cracks, mixed with seawater and enriched in chlorides (see Mihalis Papadakis). This water course, from the surface to the depths of the earth and back to the surface, can last up to 500 years.

According to the Doctor of Geology, Mr. Zisis Angelidis, the thermal water source of Agiasmata is classified in Category II (Allipiges) among Greek thermal springs. A basic characteristic of this category of thermal waters is that their composition is similar to that of seawater (see Dr. Zissis Angelidis, Therapeutic Natural Resources and Thermalism, 2007, pp. 122 and 117).

The hydrotherapy center

Bathers have the possibility to take their thermal baths in the hydrotherapy center in Agiasmata.

The hydrotherapy center was constructed in the 1080s.

It is a modern building with 12 bathtubs, rest and relaxation area and other amenities.

Opening hours
Tuesday – Sunday 9:00 -19.00
