The visitor, descending into the valley of Agiasmata all of a sudden comes into contact with a completely different nature. The rich vegetation of forests, shrubs and crops, mainly olives, on the slopes of the valley succeeds the previous pretty much arid landscape.
Judging on the basis of some specific plants and trees it is obvious that even at higher points of the sides of the valley, particularly on the west side, there is water, which is documented by the small water sources that you meet on the road going down.
The vegetation becomes denser at the lowest point of the valley crossed by the river Arvanos, which gives way to rain waters to the sea.
Equally important is the existence of many useful herbs such as oregano, sage, krittamo, wild asparagus, etc., which complement the rich flora of the valley.
Rich is also the fauna of the valley, consisting mainly of small wild animals, insects and above all birds.
Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the unique natural environment of the valley of Agiasmata through walks on trails used by the inhabitants of the area in the past, being recorded and restored in recent years by the indefatigable walker and naturalist, George Halatsis, with the help of volunteers, friends of nature of the area.
The residents have realized the value of the unique natural beauty of the area and they make every effort to preserve it. Among other measures, they founded and operate on a purely voluntary basis Fire-Service with watchtowers at surrounding peaks for timely information and immediate intervention during the warm summer months.
